Can a property management company sell its data to AI?

Short answer: Often yes, as a license of a de-identified copy of its operating records, not a sale of tenant files. Size decides which buyer will talk to you: Mode asks for 50+ employees outside its listed professional categories, while micro1 and Anthagen ask for 30+. Tenant screening reports and other consumer data need special care.

Who buys this kind of data

AI data buyers license copies of company email, documents, chat, CRM and billing records so labs can train AI on real office work. Mode describes buying 'an agreed, filtered copy of operating records' and says companies keep their originals (Mode).

Size rules that apply to property managers

Mode lists minimum team sizes of 10+ employees for legal, 15+ for accounting, medical and finance, and 50+ for all other businesses, for companies based in the US, Canada, the UK or Australia with several years of records they own (Mode). Property management is not one of Mode's lower-threshold categories, so the 50+ rule applies. micro1 asks for 30+ employees, mostly English data, and says it is prioritizing US companies (micro1). Anthagen asks for 30+ employees and English-language data, in any country (Anthagen).

So roughly 3,200 US property management firms clear a 30-employee bar and about 1,700 clear 50.

Frequently asked questions

Do tenants have to agree?

It depends on your leases, privacy notices and state law. Ask your attorney; buyers also de-identify personal data before use.

Does a 20-person property manager qualify?

Not under the published size minimums of these three programs (50+ for Mode in this category, 30+ for micro1 and Anthagen). Programs can change, so check again later.

Do I lose my data?

The programs describe licensing a copy. Mode says companies keep their original records and systems.
