Can a 10-person law firm sell its data to AI?

Short answer: A 10-person firm meets Mode's published minimum for legal (10+ employees), the lowest threshold of the programs we track. What it can license is the hard part: client information is generally protected by confidentiality rules, so the realistic scope is firm-owned operational material, set by your ethics counsel.

Size

Mode lists minimum team sizes of 10+ employees for legal, 15+ for accounting, medical and finance, and 50+ for all other businesses, for companies based in the US, Canada, the UK or Australia with several years of records they own (Mode). micro1 and Anthagen ask for 30+.

The confidentiality problem

ABA Model Rule 1.6 says a lawyer shall not reveal information relating to the representation of a client unless the client gives informed consent or an exception applies (Rule 1.6). Duties continue to former clients (Rule 1.9). Your state's version of the rule is the one that binds you.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mode accept firms under 10?

Not under its published minimum for legal.

Can I include client email if names are removed?

Removing names may not be enough when facts can identify a client. That's a question for ethics counsel, not a buyer.
